Program Information

School:Nova Scotia Community College
Faculty:School of Applied Arts and New Media
Degree:Diploma
Field of Study:Graphic Design
Description:Graphic design is the profession used to solve communication problems visually. Logos, posters, package designs, websites, billboards, brochures, letterheads, advertisements, interpretive exhibitions, and publications are examples of the types of communication needs graphic designers fulfill. In this program you learn how to develop a visual idea and lay it out using the latest computer software. You also learn how to prepare 'production art' - meaning you develop the skills needed to prepare the idea for accurate output, so you are able to handle a project from beginning to end, from concept to production.

Upon graduation, you have the design and production skills that are sought after by a wide range of employers including design and advertising agencies, newspapers/magazine and publishing companies, web design and multimedia design firms, and printing companies. Many graphic designers find success as independent consultants as well.
